Mercedes-Benz has started taking bookings for the GLC Electric in India before its official launch on November 4. The electric SUV will be available solely in the 400 4Matic trim and will be produced locally at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune, cutting down on import dependencies. This model targets India’s high-end electric SUV segment, with an estimated price between Rs. 80 lakh and Rs. 90 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against competitors like the upcoming BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, due in 2027. Under the hood, the GLC Electric 400 4Matic features a 94 kWh battery paired with dual electric motors producing 490 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque.

Mercedes claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.3 seconds, matching performance from other premium electric SUVs despite its weight of around 2.5 tonnes. The SUV’s claimed WLTP range reaches up to 715 km, though the confirmed range for the Indian version has not yet been revealed. Charging capabilities include 330 kW DC fast charging, delivering up to 300 km of range in 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

Additional features comprise air suspension and rear-wheel steering, adjustable up to 4.5 degrees for enhanced handling. Externally, the GLC Electric stands out with a rounded grille, illuminated LED elements, and flushed door handles. The rear showcases three-pointed-star taillights and a gloss-black connecting panel. While international versions offer an AMG Line option for sportier styling, its availability in India remains uncertain.

Inside, the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen dominates the dashboard, merging the instrument cluster, infotainment, and front passenger display into one unit. The system runs fourth-generation MBUX software with an AI-powered assistant, though physical controls remain on the steering wheel and center console. The SUV accommodates five passengers, with further details on trims and features expected closer to launch.

Local production in India will help Mercedes maintain competitive pricing compared to fully imported models. However, the final price, equipment, and real-world range will influence how it compares to rivals like the BMW iX3 when it arrives in 2027. The GLC Electric will be the first Mercedes-Benz electric SUV sold in India, signaling a move toward electrification in a market where internal combustion vehicles still lead.

Final specifications, including range and pricing, will be disclosed at launch, but the booking opening indicates Mercedes’ effort to attract early adopters before competitors enter the market. India’s premium electric SUV market is still developing, and the GLC Electric arrives with a WLTP range of up to 715 km and all-wheel drive. However, the real-world range under Indian conditions remains unproven. At the expected price of Rs. 80-90 lakh, the GLC Electric will compete in the premium electric SUV segment. The company has not confirmed whether the AMG Line or other trims will be available, leaving questions about customization options. The MBUX Hyperscreen and AI assistant highlight the SUV’s advanced technology.

Distinct Exterior Design Choices for the GLC Electric

The GLC Electric adopts a design language that diverges from the traditional GLC model. Its front fascia features a wide, curved grille with glowing accents, surrounded by LED headlights and star-shaped daytime running lights. The SUV’s side profile maintains a streamlined look, with smooth door handles and minimal wheel arch trim.

Alloy wheels up to 21 inches are available on higher-end versions sold outside India. No sportier AMG Line styling has been confirmed for the Indian market.
