TMPV, TPEM and Stellantis India have signed a definitive agreement that expands their current strategic partnership to encompass advanced vehicle technology and collaborative product development across multiple markets worldwide and beyond.
Expanded Technology Collaboration
This arrangement builds upon a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026, which investigated cooperation regarding manufacturing, engineering and supply chain operations in India and abroad, converting that broader intent into a concrete framework focused on product technology and vehicle architecture.
Per the terms, TMPV will grant Stellantis access to its product technology and vehicle architectures. Stellantis will merge these assets with its own product development and engineering expertise in India to create vehicles for more than 50 global markets. The resulting products will be tailored to satisfy diverse customer needs, as well as various regulatory and operating conditions across these regions. Specific vehicle models or technologies to be developed under the partnership have not yet been disclosed.
Manufacturing Base in India
Vehicles developed through the collaboration will be produced in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis. The partnership aims to utilize India’s engineering strengths and manufacturing capacity, with a focus on supporting exports.
The deal is intended to grant Stellantis better access to Tata Motors’ India-developed technology while utilizing its global engineering and product development capabilities for international markets. Both companies are positioning India as a key hub for vehicle development and manufacturing destined for export markets.
The February 2026 memorandum of understanding (MoU) set the stage for collaboration, and the new agreement officially establishes joint efforts in product technology and vehicle architecture. Shailesh Chandra, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, highlighted the partnership’s evolution over two decades, now expanding into advanced vehicle technology and design. Tianshu Xin, Stellantis’ Asia-Pacific COO, emphasized how the alliance merges Tata Motors’ Indian expertise with Stellantis’ global product development and market access.
Stellantis currently operates a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and has a presence across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The companies say combining this global footprint with Tata Motors’ technology and manufacturing capabilities could support the development and production of vehicles in India for export markets.
This agreement marks a significant expansion of the Tata Motors-Stellantis partnership, though specifics on initial products, launch dates, and technologies remain undisclosed.
